Mary Dorgan Guidance Counsellor/Admissions Officer
Mary Dorgan graduated with a Science degree, a Higher Diploma in Education and a Diploma in Guidance Counselling (U.C.D.). Mary has many years' experience in education and guidance counselling having obtained certification in many additional areas of guidance and counselling.
Mary considers that the exceptional standards in the classroom must also be reflected in the Career Guidance services provided. She takes time with the students and has a genuine interest in them. They are encouraged to be ambitious and to focus on the best they can achieve. Mary provides invaluable pastoral guidance to the students as they seek to balance academic progress and personal development.
Mary also acts as Admissions Officer in the Institute.
Helen Casey - Resource Teacher
Helen Casey qualified with a BA , Hdip Ed. ( 1st class hons. UCC) and a Diploma in Special Ed.(1st class hons. TCD)
Resource Teaching at the Institute allows those students with Specific Learning Difficulty (Dyslexia) and other disabilities to access learning support tailored to their specific needs. Helen works with dyslexic students and focuses on areas such as reading comprehension, written expression, organization, note taking and mind mapping skills. Helen meets with individual students on a one-to-one basis during their study periods and liaises with the individual subject teachers to monitor the students progress.
Applications for Reasonable Accommodations are made to the State Exams Commission in 5th and 6th year. Students are provided with full information on 3rd level language exemptions (NUI) and 3rd level college access routes (DARE scheme)
