- Essay writing covering all sections: essay, scéal, alt agus díospóireacht.
- Léamhthuiscint (comprehension): answering skills and techniques.
- Prós: In-depth analysis of the major prose pieces on the syllabus.
- Filíocht: All areas of the poetry covered with numerous question and answer samples.
- Aural comprehension: with extensive use of Department of Education material.
- All major aspects of grammar covered in detail.
- Oral work with specific emphasis on the four sections laid down by the Department of Education.

COURSE CONTENT
The course will include the following:-
- Oral work with special emphasis on Leaving Certificate requirements and day to day communication.
- Aural comprehension-using CDs and DVDs CDs: (news reports, dialogues, extracts of books read by their author) and exam tapes.
- DVDs (TV5 broadcasts, extracts of films).
- Reaction piece, diary extract, formal and informal letter, e-mail or fax and narrative.
- Extensive reading comprehensions introducing the student to both journalistic and literary styles of text.
- Fundamental knowledge of grammar put into practice in the writing techniques needed for the examination.
- Students who enrol for this course will have access to a selection of specially recorded oral preparation listening materials through our website www.ioe.ie. These materials will support and reinforce the skills, grammar and vocabulary developed during the course.

COURSE CONTENT

- Oral work with special emphasis on the Leaving Certificate oral format; general questions, role play, picture sequence or project work.
- Option to discuss a film or novel in the oral will be covered.
- Aural comprehension practice using CDs and authentic listening material, with a major emphasis on listening skills required for the Leaving Certificate aural test.
- Extensive reading comprehension practice introducing students to both journalistic and literary styles of texts, with in-depth concentration on comprehension answering skills and techniques
- Letter writing, short essay and opinion of issue practice.
- Fundamental knowledge of grammar put into practice in the writing techniques needed for the examination.
- Formal grammar section covered in detail.
