Each year students from The Institute of Education achieve some of the highest results in the Irish Leaving Certificate Examination. In fact, over 80% of students attending The Institute of Education achieve their first choice of university place each year.

The Institute of Education offers either a 1-year pre-university program or a 2-year pre-university program for students aged 16-20 to prepare for the Irish Leaving Certificate Exam.

The Irish Leaving Certificate examination takes place in June each year. Students sitting the Irish Leaving Certificate must be at least 17 years of age by the 31st July of the year they sit the exam. Students must sit examinations in a minimum of six subjects; Mathematics, English and another language are compulsory subjects.
