We go to exceptional lengths to make sure that all students have the level of career guidance that they need. Two qualified Career Guidance Teachers are on hand to students to provide advice and direction on choice of subjects, and also assistance with CAO and UCAS applications.

The career office also maintains a well resourced and up to date careers library, and every students requirements are attended to promptly.  We also provide assistance with developing interview skills and personality/aptitude profiling, all of which will become vitally important as students eventually make the transition to the employment market.


Mary Dorgan: Guidance Counsellor/ Admissions Officer

Mary graduated with a Science degree, a Higher Diploma in Education and a Diploma in Guidance Counselling (U.C.D.). Mary has many years' experience in education and guidance counseling, having obtained certification in many additional areas of guidance and counselling.

Mary considers that the exceptional standards in the classroom must also be reflected in the Career Guidance services provided. She takes time with the students and has a genuine interest in them. They are encouraged to be ambitious and to focus on the best they can achieve.

Mary provides invaluable pastoral guidance to the students as they seek to balance academic progress and personal development. Mary also acts as Admissions Officer in The Institute.


 

 

 


Helen Frewen: Guidance Counsellor

Helen graduated from UCD, with an honours degree in Psychology, undertook postgraduate study in the United States and completed an Diploma in Education at UCD.  Helen a member of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors and was a full time Guidance Counsellor in a leading Girls school for 10 years before joining The Institute of Education.

Helen believes the initial interview at The Institute is vital as subjects chosen at this occasion can influence which University course the student attends after completing the Leaving Certificate.  The career office maintains a well resourced and up to date careers library, and every students requirements are attended to promptly.  A welcoming, helpful approach is key to Guidance at The Institute of Education.
